I am 60, have osteoporosis, and was prescribed Estratest and methylprogesterone years ago to protect my bones. I am wondering why use an estrogen/testosterone formula instead of just estrogen, such as estradiol (and methylprogesterone)?
What would be the reason for prescribing Estratest instead of Estradiol, if not to enhance libido?

Low libido was definitely not an issue. The subject never even came up. The NP who I saw subsequently (she took me off Estratest and prescribed Estadiol) could not come up with a reason why the doc would have chosen that drug. I will be asking him. But, I'm hoping that someone out there might have had a similar experience to relate or some more info.
