I am a 34 year old drug addict, i have been addicted to opiates since around 1993-94 and i have never quit. I have tried methadone but was too irresponsible, and i have just recently tried suboxone! They both work, yet i cant afford the suboxone any more i am perplexed. What do i do?

If you have to maintain forever, that is ultimately your decision. What can you do?
As far as what drug to take now to treat addiction, you may be out of luck. I've been addicted to something for about 10 years now and I'm 63. I think I'm in the same boat and, from my seat, the boat is not going to stay afloat much longer.
You could taper slowly or in a detox center and get off Suboxone. Your honesty about being irresponsible is a good thing. Honesty has to be in the foundation of getting off drugs. Our addict brain mixes truth and lies to manipulate for the next high, and soon we don't know a lie from the truth. But you didn't say you want to stop. You gotta wanna.

hi, have u tryed to get on a suboxone clinic? most methadone clinics are now using suboxone also. try to find one in ur area. im not trying to be mean when i say yes u do have to deal with being an addict the rest of ur life. if u been doing opiates for 18 years then i think its safe to say u r an addict. but u don't have to be all stressed out about it. 34 years old and 18 years into an addiction u gotta say to yourself im gone do whatever it takes to take control of my life. please dont wait any longer. my name on this website subzero58, any time u wana talk to someone u can always text me. talking to someone is a start in the right direction. if u want talk about gettin better im here... peter

Have you tried Subutex? According to my pharmacist, Subutex has gone generic.
I know you posted your question a while ago, maybe you've heard this info by now, but just in case you've given up, easy enough to do, (i know 1st hand)., I thought i'd offer the info I know.
I truly hope you get the help you so desire. It's worth it when you do! Just don't give up-thats the worst thing any of us can do.
Best wishes to you

12 step meetings don't work, just as rehab won't work. You have to rewire the brain somehow, or replace missing chemicals that will make you feel normal!
12 meetings may not work for me or you if only a daily reprieve, but who are we to speak for the tens of thousands of people who would swear it works for them. It does says in the Big Book they use about those who cannot not get (read: stay) sober tied those wto those who cannot get honest. I often wonder if they speak of me ... why did it never work for me, though I do try to live by the steps. Why, though I've tried many times, cannot I not turn myself over to a bunch of people I perceive to be just as sick if not more so as me. Suffice it to say, different paths ... I would like to believe that.
As for rewiring, I'm curious not to look back into what you have shared about your success with this beast. I truly hope you found a way.
