My husband becomes incapacitated due to headaches. He is on 10 ml Aricept at night and 10ml Namenda twice a day, morning and night. I am trying to cut the Aricept to 5 ml to see if that will make a difference. Thanks.

Do you nknow that both Meds. are for same thing?
Namenda: is used to treat moderate to severe dementia of the Alzheimer's type.
---
Aricept: is used for: Treating dementia (eg, impairment of memory, judgment, and abstract thinking; changes in personality) in patients with Alzheimer disease.

Is there a preference as to which medication is prescribed first? regarding Aricept or Namenda?
Nothing has been prescribed as of yet for my mother who is diagnosed having a moderate onset of AD. My mother who is only 54 has been having ...

2008, he had been on Aricept for about a year. He had an allergic reaction to something in Dec 2008. It had been increased a couple weeks before the reaction. However, it never was determined if it was really the Aricept. Anyway, he was taken off the Aricept and put on Namenda at that time. I do not feel the Namenda worked as well as the Aricept. He does have memory loss, but certainly not Alzheimer's. Mostly forgetfulness, loss of words, not always as logical as he once was, still drives, cleans house, keeps the yard up, cuts wood, mows grass, does his trade (stone mason) at a much slower pace, etc.
A few months ago the doctor agreed that he didn't think the reaction had been from the Aricept either and we decided to try it again. We started with 5 ml and have now increased to 10ml. I just assumed, and maybe wrongly, that the increased headaches was from the Aricept since it was the last med he was put on. He did have headaches prior to the Aricept as well.

My recollection is that he had more headaches after he was put on the Namenda than previously when he was on the Aricept alone in 2008.
Thank you. Bonnie
