Talacen is a class 4 controlled substance with some potential for abuse. Accordingly, it is not as strong as oxycodone, Lortab, OxyContin, methadone, etc. When I looked up Talacen this is the list of pain meds that came up. However, your medicine (opiate wise) appears to be "weaker" then many of the comparable meds listed. I'll try to add some specific details regarding Talacen in a comment after I review it more.

If I am used to taking 10 mg of hydrocodone for pain but am switching to talacen what is the equivalent dosage?

I read some reviews from people prescribed 25mg pentazocine. The opinions varied. Some said this medication was a little weaker then vicodin, but lasted much longer. Another commented, it worked very well in controlling pain without side effects. Each person's reactions/benefits from this medication will vary. If this was prescribed to you, I hope it works well in controlling your pain. If it is not helping you, please contact your doctor.
Good luck to you and best wishes,
