The current RDA for iron for postmenopausal women (ages 50+) and all men is 8 milligrams per day. The RDA for premenopausal women (ages 19 to 50) is 18 milligrams per day. The RDA for children (ages 4 to 8) is 10 milligrams per day. These recommendations are based upon the 2001 Dietary Recommended Intakes (DRI) for 22 sex-age categories set by the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences.
