the prescription of microdantin that i have has expired. However, I was told by a medical person that drugs do not expire? Would I be able to take this prescription?

It is not recommended to consume expired medication as the efficacy, effectiveness is lost after a certain period of time, all meds manufactured do have a 'shelf-life' - in simple words do expire, however it would be best to check it with your pharmacist. The efficacy of the med declines when the expiry date is nearing, this has been proven by laboratory tests. Hope this helps?
