The usual starting adult dose of Hydroxychloroquine Sulfate (Plaquenil) for RA is 400 to 600 milligrams a day to be taken with food or a glass of milk. If the condition improves within 4 to 12 weeks, the doctor will reduce the dose to a maintenance level of 200 to 400 milligrams daily.
Please be advised that this medication can cause disorders of the retina and it's very important to have an eye exam prior to starting treatment and every 3 months after that.
