What is the difference between Metamucil and the competitor brand name Exact-Fibre laxative?

Does the generic brand have equal amount of phyilisium husk and other ingredients to help move the bile along?

yes,they do. If in doubt look at the labels to compare them at the pharmacy or check with the pharmacist.

Article infers that it is not good and calls it a laxative - I thought it was simply bran.

My pharmacy was out of the brand name, so they gave me the generic. I am taking this for the first time. Do I want the brand name to start out with?
