I was recently told that I have diverticulitis but will not be able the see my dr. for 2 weeks. I think it has something to do with the colon. Can someone give me a clue as to what to expect as far as treatment/recovery? I have been taking antibotics & pain meds. for about a month. I also have a VERY visible knot at my navel. I still suffer with pain in my lower left abdomen. I am a 47 year old female.

Dear Granny-t... Diverticulitis is an infection in one or more outpouchings in your intestines, which are called diverticulum.Pain meds are constipating, you need to keep your stool soft, so it doesn't harden and get stuck in the outpouchings. I'm 53yr old, and have some. What has really helped is "systemic enzymes",taken with water on an empty stomach.
