I realize this answer is very, very late but may help someone in future.
In situations such as acute asthma if you are relying on an expired medicine ... in an emergency if it doesn't work (as manufacturers do not guarantee the quality and efficacy of a medicine past it's expiry date) then you could be in trouble.
