I was told by psych. that I appear to have ADD from what he can see but wants me to have formal testing done to confirm. Any help and or information would greatly be appreciated! Thanks Sorrya

Hi sorrya - Formal testing requires you to see a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, sometimes a LCSW or MFT (Master's level social worker or marriage family therapist). The Psychologist will administer a battery of tests designed to rule out other disorders that may be coexisting or masquerading as the ADD (mood disorder, anxiety disorder, cognitive processing disorder, etc). The tests will typically include questionnaires requiring both subjective answers (you), and objective answers from teachers and/or family members, spouse, friends, etc. The Dr. will have his own set of tests that he/she uses to determine whether you have an ADD brain or not and/or may use standardized tests or any combination. There is also a hyperactive element of the ADD (ADHD), which would be helpful to know if it existed to then determine what the best course of treatment for you would be. If its a good Dr., you will be able to get a very good diagnosis, prognosis and treatment plan.

You're so welcome. And, do keep us updated. I enjoy watching others get answers to their questions about how their bodies/minds work, their diagnosis, then adjusting to whatever meds/therapies that are indicated, and finally finding help for what has troubled them for years, in some cases! Good luck! Keep positive! Jillian
