I have been on the methadone 40mg disk and the 10 mg tabs. I don't see how changing it to where doctors outside of methadone clinics cannot write the 40mg will change anything. They, from my experience, just write more of the 10mg tabs to equal the dose they were giving in disk 40mg form. Doesn't make much sense to me. Does it to anyone else?
In answer to "donmcm63" - you are correct. I've been taking methadone 10mg pills for 8 years for chronic pain. It's a lousy drug for spinal pain - a spinal specialist even told me so. But I got stuck on it and no one wants to switch me to something more appropriate. After the pain clinic at our large state university's medical center shut down I was lucky enough to find a decent pain specialist. I wished I'd switched to another drug then, but he finally gave me enough methadone so that it took the edge off my pains (I have multiple pain sources) - but as time when by he just prescribed more and more - he explained that they took away the 40mg wafers. Now I have to take 16 of the damn things daily - 4 at a time. And they've quit working again. My great pain guy closed his practice too. My primary I'm so sick of the pain that I'm having spinal surgery a little before I need it because I'm not getting adequate pain care. It sucks but I don't have any better options.
