What can anyone tell me about taking imitrex for migraines?

I can tell you that a lot of the patients I have known that use Imitrex say that it worked wonders for them, BUT you need to keep this in mind: Imitrex will ONLY alleviate the pain from your migraines; it will NOT reduce the number you will have. With that said, you should take it as soon as your symptoms first appear with plenty of liquid. If the first dose doesn't work after 4 hours, you can take a second one as long as you do not take more than 200mg in a 24hr period. Also, Imitrex works even better when you put yourself in a quiet, cqalm, dark environment. Hope this helps.

I take imitrex 100mg for my migraines and it helps tremendously!! I take one at the onset of the migraine and then another in 2 hours if the first tablet didn't take care of the problem(max 2 tabs in 24 hours). The first few times I took imitrex, it made my face feel tingly and my hands too. I felt very light, that effect has gone away but it still takes care of the horrible pain and sensitivity to light and sounds. I think it is a miracle drug! Good luck with your migraines keep a journal to try and figure out what the trigger(s) are for you.

I have been on Imitrex 100mg for years and have had nothing but positive experiences. Take it immediately as a TRUE MIGRAINE (not just a severe headace) and it's always taken care of it. I have never once experienced any sort of side effect. Hope this was helpful!

Imitrex works great for my migraines when I have one, which is quite often these days. It will not, however prevent them. (My migraines are not accompanied by aura and nausea.) I just switched from Topamax to Nortriptyline for prevention. Neither one of them work for me 100%, so I will try some hormonal balance therapy as well.
