Depakote ER has worked great for me, so I'm looking to stay with it, but and thinking about going with the cheaper generic. Has anyone else done this? Did you have seizures? Did you have any different side effects?
What are the pros and cons of switching from Depakote ER to the generic divalproex sodium?

Hi i've just come across you question. I can't speak from experience with this medication, but you shouldn't notice a difference between the generic and a brand name. Both must contain the same medicine, the only difference would be how they are manufactured, with regards to colourings or coatings. If you are sensitive to some additives be careful but otherwise you should be fine making the switch.

My Neuro suggested I stay on Brand Name, because even though the active ingrediants are all the same, the way an individual's body uses the inactive ingrediants to help absorbs those active ingrediants varies. He has had a number of patients have seizures after the switch. I'll go generic for other meds, but I've decided it's just not worth it with my seizure meds!
