What are the major short and long term side effects including effects with your internal organs?

Seeing as Unisom is diphenhydramine HCl- same thing as the antihistamine Benadryl, the long and short term side effects would be pretty much the same. Unisom is just Benadryl (diphenhydramine HCl) with a fancy name on it- usually even in the same dosage, except it costs twice as much.

Unisom is indicated to relieve occasional sleeplessness. You should not take Unisom long term. If your sleeplessness persists for more than two weeks, consult your doctor.
Although rare, the most commonly reported side effects are constipation, dry mouth, dry throat, blurred vision and ringing in the ears. If you experience any of these side effects, discontinue use and consult your doctor.
