What are the health risks that mirena has when un able to find in body?

My understanding is that they can slip and possibley imbed in your uterus. I have one, but never had a doc say they can't find/see it during a PAP. I was told to feel the wires and check on it every so often to ensure it is still properly placed.

They can x-ray to see if it is embedded in the uterus but more than likely it is just gone-fell out un-noticed. (in a BM perhaps?) If they x-ray and it is not there then it is gone from the body. There is no where else for it to go.

I had this happen at my last check-up. Midwife observed that the MD probably had cut the strings too short. They offered to do a vaginal ultrasound to ensure that it was still there, but I declined. Good luck!
