37 year old female diagnosed with ADHD (all ADD, few HD symptoms), but seeing little improvement with attention and focus. No improvement with Adderall or Ritalin. Also diagnosed w/ Generalized Anxiety with Depression and Wellbutrin XL improves functioning. Are ADHD symptoms caused by anxiety or are anxiety symptoms caused by ADHD? Since these three ADHD meds have not helped and ADHD symptoms have not lessened with a decrease in anxiety, is ADHD the correct diagnosis?

After getting a second opinion and further testing, it was found that I do not have ADHD. So...the symptoms that appeared to be, were really caused by the anxiety and depression and those continued to worsen due to the increase in ADHD meds. After losing my job and really hitting bottom, I have started over and am now taking only 150 mg of Wellbutrin SR for depression and am doing better with anxiety. I really think the improvement only came from stopping the huge dose of ADHD meds. I have recently started working again and have seen an increase in anxiety. I am hoping that will decrease as I become more comfortable in that environment. My doc has suggested trying low doses of Klonopin if it does continue. I am taking 10mg of Ambien to help me sleep and is it working very well.

Well i am a 29 year old who was originally diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. I began taking lexapro and very seldom xanax. The lexapro helped greatly but i found that the xanax wasn't necessary except to sleep. I now only have anxiety if i have missed a dose. however, that being said several months ago while looking up information on adhd for my son. i found some info on adult adhd and spoke to the doctor and found that i also have adult adhd.i was prescribed straterra at first and it had a remarkable calming effect on me . When i discussed this with the md she told me that a lot of adult adhd patients frequently are also diagnosed with anxiety problems due to not only the constant problems directly affected by adhd like not being able to complete work and social issues such as interrupting and asking others to repeat themselves but also the constant flurry of thoughts which race through the adhd mind.
