So I went to the psychiatrist to seek help for my recent panic anxiety and after a nearly 2 hour appointment prescribed me tegretol and lamictal. What is this going to do? This is unlike anything I've had in the past and I don't know what to say to get the right help, it seems like these are bipolar meds, so he must have determined that's my diagnosis. He gave me zyprexa to use for panic episodes but it just makes me sleep for 2 days, so I don't know what to do... I'm not seeing him for another two or three weeks.
Thanks

Often times you will have a disturbance of your sleep cycle when you start or stop these sorts of medications. If you are still having trouble in a week or two, give him a call.
As to how you will react and what it will do, it should help even you out and decrease your panic symptoms. That doesn't mean this first combination witll work, sometimes it takes 20 meds to find the right cocktail.

Hi there I was perscribed lamictal nearly 2 years ago after long search for something to make me feel better... wow it worked not sure why but after 3-4 days I felt a tremendous difference in mood attitude and felt like living life again! Who new? Give it a try don't think it's dangerous but I do suggest one at a time so you know what's doing what and give it a real chance. It works!

In all honesty that's exactly how I felt. I was recently prescribed Lamitical and Propranolol three days ago at my first visit to a new Doctor. She has 40 years of experience with these things and I have a hard time trusting ne one. I am prescribed it for my Bipolar 1 disorder. Read the reviews on this site this seems to be the best mood stabilizer on the market. I have ocd tendency when it comes to what meds im on and have read a ton on this one. As for my distrust w my new Doctor the Propranolol is usually used to lower high blood pressure. Unless im manic or having a panic attack (I lately very often do, hospitalities for a heartbeat of 167 3 weeks ago) my blood pressure is said always to be that of a babies. There are SO MANY other issues that these meds help us with, try to trust your doctor.

Ik I don't have high blood pressure! I am on Xanax 4mgs a day and propranolol is supposed to (at least for me) not allow me to have such severe panic attacks or take such a high dose of such an addictive drug as I've had addictions in the past. Sorry so long just wanted to explain the long road that I've come to realize im on and it seems ur on too! Good luck friend! Your at the rite place :)

my understanding is that Lamictal and Tegretol should not be taken together, please ask your physician.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah I had a different mood this morning, but the zyprexa and tegretol are leaving me feeling rather sedated. I have the lamictal starter kit where the dosage increases gradually over weeks, so I'm sure I'll be able to tell over time.
It just worries me that I have seen several psychiatrists and doctors in the past and none ever came close to saying bipolar, and I just don't know how my anxiety/panic is going to be helped. All my doctors in the past prescribed a med like klonopin or valium, mainly for as needed panic like I was experiencing, and now I am afraid that, while hoping never to be prescribed a benzo like that on a daily basis, that when I do need that quick relief from breakthrough anxiety that it won't be there. I just don't think my doctor understands what I go through and that I can't afford to lose 2 days of my life to zyprexa if I have to take that for a panic attack due to school and work.
Any other comments are greatly appreciated, thanks.
Hi I agree with jaimebeaux, lamictal (Lamotrigine) changed my life. If I could tell more people to try it I would it has helped for my anxiety, Depression, ADD,ADHD,ADHI and I am also diagnosed bipolar. It is all I take and as jaimebeaux said one feels like one in living life again. All other med and I have taken most made me feel weird in some way or other. Not so with lamactil. Don't give up on it too quickly. I started feeling better on it after 3 days. It works for me hopefully for you too.
As you did im on day three Huge Mood difference already! !!
