I was just prescribed seroquel for bipolar II. I'm worried about the weight gain issue. Does it just automatically put pounds on you or can you just eat healthy and avoid that side effect?

Hello BipolaaaarII. I have bipolar I and take 800 mg of Seroquel at night along with some other medications as they leavy me dopey in the morning. I gained some weight from it,but it could vary from person to person. Exercise as it will do wonders for controlling or weight, you are out and about with nature and it makes you feel better. Please stay in close contact with your doctor about this issue and others that may pop up. I hope this advice helps you. I wish you the best. Sometimes a little weight gain is a trade off for having mental stability in your life.

Hi Bipolaaaarll,
I have been taking about 300mg at night for anxiety beginning 3 months ago. I quickly put on about 8lbs in 2 weeks. But I have since lost 4lbs of that in the past week and a half. I didn't even diet, I just stopped eating 'snacks' and dramk more water. I also feel that I can lose more quite easily. So, just to summarize I think for some reason wheh you start Seroqel it puts on weight initially. This is in my opinion because of the initial onset of getting the drug into your system has the effect of slowing down your metabolism. But once the drug gets into your system and the initial sisde effects decrease then the weight that you have gained will come off with only a small effort. This is my experience anyway.
