Six weeks ago. I was diagnosed as Vitamin D-def. My vitamin D level was at 6. My doctor has me taking 1 tablet of 50,000 mlg. of vitamin D a week. I am in severe pain in all my joints and having trouble standing, walking and sleeping. Lately a lot of nausea as well. Is there anything that I can take or do to help with the pain?

I think you need to see your doctor again. It sounds as if there is MORE to your problem than the Vitamin D deficiency. I am a 64-year-old cancer patient myself and after several months on 50 mg once weekly, my Vitamin D levels have risen and I have more energy. My doctor has now placed me on 1,000 mg Vitamin D in morning and 1,000 mg again in the evening. Please follow-up with your doctor again.

I had the same problem. It was like bands around my joints. You have o/d on Vit D. Do not take another one, till you call your doctor. You said you are on 1 a week? I was on 2 a week and the pain is unreal. I hardly could walk. It got better the next day. Thank the Lord.
I am now back to 1 a week. I feel better now... : )

It will take time for the supplements to kick in. I am also on medication for vit d defficiency and i can tell you that you will not feel better before a couple of months. however, in the beginning of my treatment, my doctor prescribed me something for the pain along with the vitamins. So why dont you ask your doctor to prescribe you something? Also, its very important that you get some sunlight exposure everyday. like around 15 to 20 mins on bare skin. Get well soon.

Hey, that sounds very familiar, mine tested way low also! I take the same amount as you also once a week! I was told it is a very important supplement to take and monitor, in my case this and B-12 and Iron have helped some of my cognitive issues from the brain cancer and other operations when the site and skull bone became infected. My insurance company actually pays for a certain amount of D since I live in the Pacific NW! Not much sunshine when it rains or snows all winter. Wow, I dont know about the pain thing, sounds like when they had me on steroids! Woke up one morning and could not walk, they lowered dose and then the pain set in and I will not take Decadron or any steroid again, now that I know it will make me hurt and incapable of walking!

the best thing anyone can do to boost levels of any vitamin in ther body is to start juicing. find nutrition information on what your body is lacking and start drinking your way to a healthy diet. the energy you start feeling is a high in itself. juice spinach, bananas fruit and vegetables are your best way of getting vitamins.not to mention great for digestion.
you can drink enough of anything -- not juice, not milk -- to get sufficient vitamin D required by your body. The #1 source of Vitamin D is the sun. Get out in it and take D3 supplement - 5,000 IU daily. visit www.vitamindcouncil.org

" Vitamin D
Vitamin D is essential for bone health as well as calcium absorption and healthy immune function. But taking too much vitamin D can result in some very toxic consequences. For adults, a daily dosage of 1 to 3 mg of vitamin D can be toxic if consumed over a long stretch of time. Some common symptoms you may feel are nausea, pain in the joints, vomiting and loss of appetite. A prolonged toxic dose could result in irrevocable deposits of calcium in the soft tissue areas of the body, which could result in damage done to the heart, kidneys and lungs"

Nuts! why is everyone referring to vitamin d in "mg" amounts? It should be "IU" amounts, it should be D3, and its near impossible to overdue on vitamin D. What is the "D" blood levels? visit www.vitamindcouncil.org for information from the experts
I was a level 14 on my D and took 50,000 per week and then went to a specalist and he put me on 50,000 one week and 100,000 the next week. It took me almost 1-1/2 years to reach the level of 53. I went on a mantance level of 1 50,000 units once a month. In less than 3 months my level fell over 21 points. I will keep on the 50,000 units per week so that I don't hurt and feel weak. I now have a long way to go to get back to the 50's again. Regular Doctors really don't understand this problem. They are just begining to learn. A normal amount for anyone to take is 2,000 per day.
