This is a question I sure could use some help on. My Brother in Laws nephew just tried to commit scuaside last Thursday by taiking 40 antacids. Thank goodnews he told his mother right away. He is currently in a I guess you would call it a mental hospital for children. They have perscribed him Prozac. This little guy has been through so much trauma and stress its just sad. Anyone have any ifo on children and anti deppresnts. Any and all comments are greatly appreciated... Thanks.

Hello alisha29. I'm sorry to hear that. Truly am. Such a young age, just a kid. Should be thinking about whats to be found under the Christmas Tree. Yes, to your question. Its used often on children. Nothing unusual about that. Hes in a safe place now, where hes under 24 hour watch, since he did try and end his life. If its allright with you, I'll say a prayer for the little guy. Hopefully hes going to at least begin to feel better and soon. Very best to you and your family,

Thank you for your comment. Prayers are needed for this little guy and thank you for them. I know he is a good place its just sad . He is so young. He always seemd like a happy kid you just never know... Hopefully the meds and some family counsling will have him feeling better.

You are welcome Alisha. I truly hope that things do go well for him. You'll, the family, will have to be patient. Psychiatric drugs work on our brain. Each brain works differently, I suppose thats one of things that make us unique. We all think and react differently. It really is a hit and miss, or trial and error, situation when it comes to these drugs. Just if you can, not certain how active you are on the site, but let us know, how hes doing. Drop us a line if you might. I'm pulling for him. I mean who wouldn't? Bye bye then,

I'm a little confused, you list venlafaxine which is Effexor then ask a question about Prozac which is fluoxetine. Prozac has a long history and although as DzooBaby states there are warnings against using any antidepressant with people younger than 24, it would be the medication of choice before venlafaxine. As long as he is being watched closely for signs of worsened symptoms both at the hospital and once he comes home, I agree he should be ok to take this medication.

Sorry about the confusion... Im not sure how effexor got in my question. Im new to this site but he was put on prozac. Thanks for the info.
