My immune system is shot due to cancer and I get IgG infusions every week. Not sure if it is safe for my houseguests to come due to the chickenpox

Theoretically, unless they are coming down with it they can't carry it. That would mean checking to make sure they've had it in the past. Have you had chickenpox? That should negate any worry if you did. If you're still worried, check with your doc or ask them to postpone.

Thanks for your answer. I was hoping that they cannot carry the virus to me. They have had chickenpox and so have I. They will be here for a week, which means that if they were to get it, it would be while they are here (meaning shingles). Unfortunately, only my IgM works, so I assume that any immunity I may have had to the virus no longer exists. I have a call in to my oncologist to be certain. I'll post his answer so others in the same situation will know. Thanks again.
Shingles is not a contagious disease. When a person gets chickenpox, it goes away, but the virus stays in your system and can, when you are weak physically, come back as shingles. A person who has never had chicken pox, could catch chickenpox from a person with shingles, but if you all had chickenpox, you're safe from it.
My oncologist/hematologist just called. He agrees with you, kaismama, that I am safe from second-hand exposure. However, I cannot be around anyone with an active outbreak. Thanks again for all of your answers.
