Your wife obviously had a severe infection to be hospitalised and given IV Augmentin.
Augmentin has the FDA Pregnancy Category B

There are times when a doctor has to weigh up risks and benefits of giving a drug during pregnancy. Given the nature of your wifes infection the doctor has decided the benefits of Augmentin outweighed any risk to the baby.
