Hi spg, U.C. is a horrible disease to have. I was diagnosed many yrs ago and was started on sulfer drugs and my symtoms cleared up for ten yrs or so. Then my symtoms returned with a vengence. I was then treated w prednisone. I went in and out of hopitals several times. I was on prednisone for 6 months or so. During my hopitalization, I developed acne, gained 60 pds plus and eventually required an ileostomy. Two yrs later I was diagnosed w avascular necrosis which killed bloodflow to my bones. In hindsight I wished I had never been treated w this drug. I have now had numerous surgeries including two total hips and both shoulders w a knee pending and have developed osteoporosis. Sorry for such a pessimistic answer and I don't doult that it helps many people but in my case my doctor never told me how dangerous this drug was and I was too sick to fight.

SPG: Prednisone is only given for severe situations and only as an emergency procedure. Because it weakens the bones, and creates osteoporosis and eye cataracts, it is only prescribed for short periods, and not often. Your honey will be given a prescription for something longterm that can be handled easily and will give the best results. Good luck
