katstewAny side effects I need to look out for? I cant remember 9 years back ( I took it for 5 years).
This is the psych doc's latest recommendation.. 2011 saw Cymbalta stop working after 3 years, then we had trial and error with Wellbutrin, Valdoxan and Prohexal - all to no avail. So we are trying Effexor now.

I would ask the same question of why did you come off effexor to begin with? For me effexor gave me a lot of nervous energy, my metabolism was out the roof. Insomnia was horrible, there were nights when I was lucky if I got 1 to 2 hours of sleep. Doctor tried a sleeping pill but it helped very little, sometimes when I would get wore down I could get 6 hours of sleep which is great, but that was every 4 to 5 days. It will also make your sex drive go to zero, I don't know your partners feelings fortunately my partner is very understanding, so we have no issues. If I had my choice effexor would be out, but I could not take Zoloft and effexor was my docs next choice.

I am currently on effexor and i too was on it before for 3 years. It has its pros and cons for me. It helps with the depression but i notice that my thinking pattern has changed. its weird, its like i get suicidal thoughts but im not suicidal. makes sense?? Anyway, i also do not like the fact that i cannot have the occasional mix drink without feeling like i was going crazy.

Hudson, it stopped working - I had loads of personal drama going on, and had a set-back. Apparently the first option should have been to INCREASE the dosage, before trying different medication. The Psych doc at the time moved me on to a few others, until Cymbalta became the one that worked for me. 3 years later, another crisis, and Cymbalta stopped working - even an increased dosage - it made me more anxious.
