I have been prescribed Trazodone to help treat my insomnia. It works about 50% of the time to help me fall asleep. The worst side effect I have while taking it is feeling like an absolute zombie the next day. Does that go away? Will ever wake up and feel refreshed?

Ruth, thank you so much for your reply. I will keep taking it this week and see what happens. If it doesn't get better, I will ask the doc for something else.
Well I wish you the best of luck. I take Lunesta myself and have no problems at all the next day. Theres one thing for sure. We need good sleep, but we need to be able to function the next day too. See ya then. Ruth

When I took trazadone I was started at 25mg a night for sleep & when I got used to that dose it was upped to 50mg. so I concur with Thor about dropping your dose by cutting your pills in1/2 & take it regularly so it builds up in your system to help you sleep at night. Good job, Thor (again!)... Mary
Thanks, Mary! I will definitely cut it down and see what happens. I really appreciate the reply.
You are more than welcome... Mary

What is your dosage? I take 50mg's before bed, and haven't had any prob. ( its been two months) I have read that th higher the dose the more likley you will have that tired groggy feeling the next day. But on the bright side it will eventually go away, just takes some time. In the mean time, strong coffee. : ) good luck to you. Taylor
Lol, I need to read other answers, before I reply. = )
Taylor, thanks for getting back to me. Not even a large coffee and tea helped today. I have felt like poop all day. I will definitely lower the dose and see how it goes. I really appreciate your reply!

Thor, thanks for answering so quickly. I take 50 mg. I'm overweight so I don't know if that amount is necessarily too high for me. Maybe I just need to give it more time. I honestly don't know what's worse, being tired from the insomnia or feeling like a zombie from the medicine. If there's a chance it will get better, I will keep taking it.
I'm over weight and I also take 50 mg. You cold take 25 mg for a while and slowly build up to 50. That was what I did.
I will take your advice, Thor, and try half the dose and see what happens. The comedic thing about all of this is that I have a hard time losing weight because of my insomnia, and my insomnia is causing weight gain. Go figure.
