Who has taken topamax and savella for fibromyalgia? I have just recently started the starter pack of

I have taken Topamax, Savella, Viibryd, and Lyrica (in addition to narcotic pain relievers) for my Fibromyalgia pain.

Topamax worked for a while then suddenly stopped (100mg, 3x/day). While I lost a considerable amount of weight while on it, my memory got so bad I didn't know where I was or the day of the week most of the time. It was also supposed to alleviate my chronic daily headaches but did nothing for them or the fibro pain.

I took Savella after I'd been on Lyrica for almost a year and it stopped working. It never did anything to alleviate any pain, but it did cause weight gain. I was only on it for 3 months, then tittered off.

Viibryd was the worst nightmare of my life. It helped maybe 15% with the fibro pain and the side effects were absolutely miserable: severe nausea, constant (and I DO mean constant!) diarrhea, profuse sweating and heat intolerance, more memory problems, worsening of insomnia, and somehow I managed to gain weight. I gave it plenty of time, 6 months, then I HAD to get off of it. It seemed like it was killing me.

Last but not least, I took Lyrica for nearly a year. It was the ONLY medication that alleviated the fibro pain effectively, but it stopped working just like the other meds, plus my memory was just as bad with this as it was with the Topamax. I also had severe swelling in my hands and feet, over 50# weight gain in the first 6 months, and extreme cravings for sweets.

I am now only taking my pain meds, Wellbutrin SR for depression, Prilosec for the stomach issues caused by Viibryd, Adderall for the exhaustion, and Folic Acid + Vitamin D3 for deficiencies. I cannot take Cymbalta alongside Wellbutrin, but have had no success with SSRI's and SNRI's for the fibro pain, so it would probably be pointless anyway.

I wish I could have given you more positive information, but the reality is that FMS is a tough disease to treat and it seems the "cure" hasn't been discovered yet. I do hope you have more success with your treatments than I have.

Hello! I just joined today and I realize I may be posting a bit late to your question. I take 400mg of Topamax a day for the terrible migraines I used to have. I had to switch neurologists as my first didn't seem to want to go over 200 mg. Topamax seems to help with weight loss. What works best for me and my migraines is 175 mg in the am and 225 at bed. I also take Savella and it has worked wonderfully for me though I still have pain, it is manageable. My first neurologist had started me on Gabapentin and my weight skyrocketed, but after I started going to the 2nd he weaned me off the Gaba as he started increasing the Topamax and my migraines are almost non-existent now - I used to have them weekly for days at a time - more than 15x a month! I haven't had a bad one requiring an abortive med in months - almost a year. I also take 2 or 3 Flexril muscle relaxers at night depending on how tight my muscles are - I'm allowed up to three a day.

They allow me peaceful sleep most nights. My neuro also took away my tramadol as it reacts w/Savella (though I never experienced anything negative) and replaced it with hydrocodone and a muscle relaxer I could take during the day, Robaxin. I take a hydrocodone and 1/2 a robaxin before work for back and neck pain from fibro and as an extra precaution for tension headaches and am able to work pain free for most of the day. If necessary I can take another hydro and another 1/2 robaxin. I don't notice weight gain from Savella - but I do have constipational issues I'm told stems from it. Murilax helps if it's real bad, but I try to drink plenty of water and eat more high fiber foods and snack on prunes (like my granmother always did, lol - I'm 43 btw). I may use the murilax 1-2x a month. I've wondered about other fibro meds since I still have pain w/ Savella, but I have so little side effects with it I a little leary to try something new.
