I am having a difficult time tolerating lactulose. I develop severe diareha, flutulance, bloating, and cramping. My instestine slushes and grurgles like clogged pipes. I have tried doses from 30-60. I tried cutting back fom 60, but then the bowel movements stopped. My doctors says triate for 2-3 bowel movements a day, but all I get is constant diareha or northing. Any suggestions?

Lactulose intolerance is not uncommon. Is there any reason why you can't take another type of laxative eg. Metamucil, a natural fibre laxative? I am unsure of your history but you should discuss this with your doctor as there are alternatives.

i also take 60 ml a day and i take 3 ducalox and 3 senna lax and i have been having a terrible time staying regular my Dr wont run a colonoscopy because he says 32 is to young to worry about anything sometimes i dont go for 3 days so i take extra ducalox and senna lax to get going again and then its back to diareaha any suggestions
I've been round and round with my doctor. This is what he wants me to take, I also take mirilax which is helpful. It's just that the lactulose is so hard for me to take. It does the trick most of the time, but the side effects are just terrible.
On the contrary, the lactulose gurglings are just entertaining and I'm regular every day! I take 60 ml. every day with bran cereal.
i have tried all the other laxatives-but lactulose works best for me-i fix it with orange juice (the best or sugar free sodas or wylers lemonade** they all work just fine\\find your favorite.beverage (not alcohol cuz it probably caused the cirrohsis in the first place*good luck and happy new year
i have H.E. and only use lactulose like 60 m.l.- at least a day and i take xafafin (550) 6 times a day (very expensive) also for H.E. why do u take this for disease- wise? also u can dr it up with any liquid (orange juice\diet soda
