Stopping Subutex vs Suboxone will be the same. They both contain the medication buprenorphine which is the opiate that your body becomes dependent upon. The Suboxone contains the added medication called naloxone which is added to prevent drug addicts from injecting this med.

dear NoMore, now would be the time to enlist your subutex dr in your plan to be free of subutex and opiates. Some find it easier to drop by 1 mg instead of 2 once they get down to a total of 4 mgs per day. You basically are reversing the opiate dependence and opiate tolerance, when you are tapering off, so think of this as a subutex diet for your brain. If you can, try to eradicate ALL fear of getting off of subutex, once that fear is gone, you will be more comfortable. You KNOW this won't kill you to taper off, you actually are doing this right, so give yourself a big pat on the back and hold you head high. Can you go to my profile by clicking my avatar nd reading my profile story. It contains the info about my taper and the walking for exercise tip and others. The walking for exercise is actually very beneficial when you taper and it helps you stabilize more quickly. Patti
hi pattishan... i wanted to get a quick question out while i am thinking of it because i am likely to forget by the time i am home from work... i am in the initial stages of making a conscious decision to 'try' to start tapering... i have a lousy suboxone doctor who doesn't see me as a person, but just as little dollar signs walking into his practice every 5 weeks... i've been taking 8-12 mgs for a pretty long time now... just in the last 5 days, I have been taking 8 mgs (the one tablet) something weird has been happening in that i feel i've developed a sensitivity to suboxone. i used to take much more almost 2 years ago, and now since taking a lesser dose, i feel like it makes me loopy and tired, an overall uncomfortable way to feel. it has me feeling like i really want to start getting off of this stuff. it was a lifesaver and i am very grateful, but it seems like it's turned on me and makes me feel a way it didn't used to.
Hey Danni, I did go back on an antidepressant as I finished my taper. I figured I might have a bit of trouble sleeping, might get a bit depressed out of fear, and might need some energy. I had been on 2 others before and felt amitriptyline was the better choice to help me with sleep and energy. Each person is different and some do have an odd feeling like almost being high, and I started getting that feeling some and decided it was time to taper. It is really hard to say which this feeling comes from. And it's hard to say if a drop is the cause of it, any symptoms related to a drop does come 3 to 5 days after a drop if you are on 4 mgs or over per day. When you get down to 4 mgs per day, the subs can wear off quicker than 3 to 5 days. If you can handle the odd feeling and aren't impaired and have no other weird symptoms, then try to stay on the path.

I'm detoxing of 8mg of Suboxone and have been on it for 2 years. Pattishan61 has really helped me and i think gives excellent advice. I'm in my 1st week so I don't have any advice but I dropped to 5mg right away. I started this past Tuesday (5 days ago) and so far so good. Everybody that has responded to my questions was very helpful. I've taken both, Soboxone and Subutex. Subutex is much cheaper! I'm doing my detox just like Pattishan61. I've got 60 pills and can get more if I have to but I'm going to this this in 3 to 4 week bits. If you read her story or take some of the suggestions she offers it makes sense. Especially about what this stuff does to our receptors in our brains. In 3 weeks I'm dropping to 4mg. Then in 3 weeks I'll drop to 3 and 2 weeks after that drop to 2. I'll stay at 2mg for 4 weeks and drop to one. Like Pattishan61 says, if you go to low just take a crumb if you absolutely have to.
Thank You dear Sonny, I am going to give you the soon to be coveted "Getting Booted," award that I made up for this site and stellar answers and fabulous support. It means getting booted into the spotlight and is worth 100,000 thumbs ups. So many times, we need to know someone is just like us and we can help each other and your answer really brings that forward. The award was named for a former member here named booter42. The answer he gave one night, that rx'ing suboxone or subutex drs, should be required to go to some addiction recovery meetings to see what we go thru, is what inspired the award. A you may know, drs take an 8 hour training class to be legal to write a suboxone or subutex , and any dr who takes the course, from a a dermatologist to a psychiatrist, is then legal to dispense it. It doesn't mean they understand addiction or recovery, just that they are legal. It is up the dr to try and learn about addiction and recovery.
Thank you pattishan61. I know after reading your story and all the advice yourself and others have given me, I know I can do this! I have no doubt in my mind that I can. The way you did it in order to avoid serious withdrawal just make's so much sense to me. I'm not in a hurry to get it done. It will happen when it's supposed to as long as I stick with my plan. I really think so many out there are so misinformed that they stay on for that reason. They're scared to death, just like I was. But now after going down to the 5mg and being able to do that, there's much much less fear. My biggest enemy is my own head telling me I can't do this but I know I can. More important, I want to do this. It was also important for me to map this out. I figured if I stick to my timetable, it will be a Suboxone free Christmas!! Now that would be a Merry Christmas! I hope LaurieShay gets a game plan.

Hi nomore, When I got down to 4mg of suboxone I dropped 1mg per week. When I got down to 1mg I took it for the week and just stopped taking anything. There was only slight discomfort and I do mean slight the last week on 1mg. And when I stopped completely it was a piece of cake. I was very worried about being sick from sub wds, have to go to work, and just didn,t want to be sick but it was nothing. The first week I was waking up 3-4 times a night but could go right back to sleep. I was getting a full nights sleep. I chocked it up to the fact that it was the first time in a long time that I was sleeping without any meds. in my system. I,ve been off the suboxone since June 6th. I don,t take anything. Everyones body is different. I,ve read about bad wds. off subs. I think that flipped me out a little when I,d think about getting off them. If and when your ready you can get off subs.
Wow Jolter, congrats my friend. Ya get the getting booted award too. I am so glad for you, makes my day. Thanks, patti
And Jolter, will you please add this info in your profile story, you can go to your page, hit edit my profile and add your story. So many people are terrified of getting off subs and they do want to read someone else has done it and are fine. I tell people to go to anyone's profile who has successfully tapered off, and would love to add your name as a reference. This is a big deal, you have done very well. I am proud of you and so happy you are well. Thanks, patti

After 4 years on 32 mg of sub I did Ibogaine as I was desperate. It worked The Ibogaine was amazing as it did in one day what I couldn't do in years. From 32mg to 0 and only mild wd. I got home and succumbed to the wd and took 2mg of sub. Now I need to taper as the sub is so binding to the receptors. I am going to examine the various suggestions and talk to my sub dr. If I hadn't rushed the treatment and allowed more time on morphine sulphate prior to ibo dosing it would have worked 100 pct. def worth the 7000 after years of suffering. Want to know if anyone has had any similar experience.

I am so so glad this info is all here.. I have been in a mess, wondering if I ever ever have a chance at getting off subutex at ALL.. When I first started taking it 3 1/2 years ago, I didn't have a plan, I thought that if I needed to use it forever for chronic pain then so be it.. I see now, with it affecting me a lot, and also trying to figure out what exactly my real problems are (bipolar, manic depressive), I need to be almost, or ALL the way off Subutex AND Klonopin. Currently I am at around 24

Thank you for your reply. I just started this site and Im getting used to using it, gets a little confusing. But what I am really wondering is I have seen some posts from pattishan (I think that's the name) about successfully stopping suboxone. That would mean everything to me, all I want is to be free and feel normal again. However since I'm on only 2 mg a day, which I split into morning and afternoon, I'm wondering how I would best taper off? Is subutex more difficult to split up one pill? At the same time, I can't taper yet because the whole reason for switching from suboxone to subutex was that my husband and I could get pregnant
I'm a little confused. Subutex is safer to be on then Suboxone if you are pregnant but isn't gonna help you get that way. If you want to be off this medication, why not just taper off the Suboxone and be done with it. Reduce your 2 mgs a day to one mg a day for two weeks, then reduce to half a mg for two weeks, then half a mg every other day for two weeks, then stop. If you experience any unbearable discomfort you can stay at any particular dosage for upto a month before reducing again. Let your body be your guide. You can read pattishan61 profile by clicking on the "Friends" link above on the right and using the search window to find it. It explains a good taper schedule that was effective for her and has been for others.
