I was on Levothyroxine (25 mg and 50 mg alternate) a generic medicine for brand name synthyroid after I was diagnosed with sub-clinical hypothyroidism. After 2 months,I felt really good with the medicine, I went for my blood work and my TSH was way too low -0.002 and my dr prescribed me the brand Synthyroid for the next 2 months - Synthyroid worked pretty well, although my symptoms were still the same.. and I had unbelievlable amount of hair loss!!! I was so worried and I went back to the dr and asked her to switch me to another name brand - Levoxyl. This is my second day on Levoxyl, I just wanted to know if it is the same as Synthyroid and does it also have the side effects of hair loss??

Yes, Levoxyl and Synthroid contain the same generic medicine (levothyroxine).
And yes, Levoxyl also has hair loss as a side effect. Basically all brands of levothyroxine have hair loss as a side effect, but everyone reacts differently to different medicines and you might experience some side effects on one medicine (brand) and not on others.
Sometimes it may be hard to loss weight while you are any form of levothyroxine. You will have to try and see. All the best.

Thanks Marvell..I just hope I don't have a glob of hair loss with this one.. Also, in your experience, is it really hard to lose weight even after taking Levoxyl?
