It has worked just fine, I just picked up my refill and it's a white tablet with m122. I've never taken this brand before nor have I seen it. I work as a pharmacy tech but stay loyal to my community pharmacy. I assume my community pharmacy got this brand for a cheaper cost but will it be just as effective as the actavis brand? I take...

Has anyone been told they need to take a 'vacation' from valacyclovir?

I have suffered for years from repeating blisters on the roof of my mouth. Finally I saw an infectious disease doctor who put me on acyclovir. This helped for a while, but the blisters started back. When I had an outbreak, I also had fever, pain in my eye and ached all over. I would be sick for 2 days. This doctor switched me to 500mg valacyclovir but told me I would have to 'take a vacation' from it every two years. I would have to stop taking it for 2 weeks. I saw her again in about...

and I still get the occasional minor outbreak. Can I up the dosage to one 500mg pill twice daily for three days, as recommended for outbreaks when not taking them daily. I know for recurring outbreaks they advise 500mg twice daily for three days. But I am taking them once daily for preventative precautions. Will it mess things up if I get a Minor outbreak and up my dosage for three days and then go back to my once a day schedule?

I had a TCA chemical peel 8 days ago and was prescribed Valacylovir HCL to prevent any herpes. I developed large bright red raised areas that sting, itch, and really hurt on my chest, hands, and forearms, but not on my face that had a higher % (35) concentration applied. My doctor thought I had a bad reaction to the petroleum jelly coating, could it be an allergic reaction to the Valacylovir HCL?

Herpes Zoster - Can valacyclovir be used to suppress VZV outbreaks indefinitely?

My mother's ophthalmologist put her on Valtrex indefinitely to suppress a possible shingles outbreak. She had a severe one 7 yrs ago that caused near blindness in one eye. She has had a cornea transplant 6 months ago and the doc says another shingles outbreak in the eye could cause her to lose the cornea. Valtrex forever? That worries me.
