Ergocalciferol - Is it safe to open the 50,000IU caps to ingest?

What's the safest way? I haven't started taking them, I'm on one a week. I have incredible trouble swallowing pills, please help.

Delta D3 - Cholecalciferol comes from lanolin or fish oil Does it matter which one to use?
