Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim - is trimetho/sulfamethox in the penicillin family?

Sulfamethoxazole belongs to a group of drugs known as sulfonamides ("sulfa" drugs). Trimethoprim does not belong to a specific class of medications, however its an antibacterial, please talk to your pharmacist for more information, hope this helps?
