My 13 year old just started on Strattera after many unsuccessful tries on stimulants. He was off his medication for about 2 months, but asked to go back on as he's struggling in school. The first day he took the Strattera, he promptly complained of feeling dizzy and fell asleep. He waited about a week, and tried it again, but took it before bed. He is still complaining of feeling dizzy and tired during the day. It's not affecting his appetite which is great, and he reports feeling more focused already. I'm not sure how long to suggest that he stay on this to see if the side effects minimize. I'm scared that we're out of options and he still many years left of school.

Hello hypermom. I read up on strattera and dizzyness is a common, normal side effect. Hes still in the early stages of taking the drug. I'd wait awhile. More often than not the side effects diminish and then disappear. If not, you can take it up with his doctor. The good news is that hes doing much better. Best of wishes,

Thanks. I read that as well, but I also read about some pretty horrible side effets which is always pretty scary. Actually, in the two days since I posted this, he is doing a lot better. We are supposed to increase the dosage a bit on Monday and I wonder if we'll be back to square one again.
Hello again. Well thats good news. It is. Hes doing better. As to the increase, you'll wait it out, but he might just adapt to it without any real adverse, nasty effects. Keep our fingers crossed :-0) Best to you and yours,
My son is on strattera as well and had the same side effects for about the first 2 weeks but has now been on the strattera for over a year I dont let them change his dosage as much as they would like for the fact being if its working then there is no reason to change and give him more. Were not trying to drug our children just make them reach their full potential. Also strattera is a time release stimulant which should only be taken in the morning or it has no effect on his schooling. even the smallest amount of caffiene can make the child feel dizziness. Anyways good luck to you and your son and may GOD bless you both.
