I have extreme anxiety, agitation, panic attacks and get very mean to my loved ones etc... I know many will relate (I hope) but my fear is starting this med my psych told me it MAY increase anxiety... diarrhea while awful would be a cakewalk next to my attacks. Has anyone experienced this at startup? I have never before taken an anti-depressant, only Zoloft for 1 day and I nearly had to be hospitalized due to my anxiety increasing 100 times over.

Hello cots. I'll try and ease your mind abit. Anti-depressants are much like any other drug, made to help us. Some people are on them a short period of time, others for many years. Side effects are normal with any medication and many though listed, never happen. Dry mouth for example, might be a side effect of a certain drug, but I might be on that drug for ages and never once experience having a dry mouth. Trying to say, try not and let your mind, fears, build up, and increasing your anxiety. Try and remember the drug you are taking is a medication. Thats why we say did you take your meds today? The side effects will usually ease up and disappear with a short period of time after beginning Vibryd. The actual theraputic actions working might take a bit longer, but you will certainly feel it working and you'll begin to feel more like your old self. Best of wishes to you,

Thank you Pledge. I have seen your name around these forums even before I signed up and appreciate the response. I think I will start this med today because I have already waited as long as I could so here goes nothing! I just have one question, who asks "have you taken your meds today"?? And Thank you again.

Very welcome Anne. My wife reminds me, its my evening med and without it, I don't sleep well, average four hours of broken sleep (insomnia) and it also gives me an appetite (side effect of the drug)and so I plan my supper hour around it. After taking it, within a hour or so the hunger kicks. Best of luck to you, be a bit patient, and you'll do fine.
So, may I ask if you yourself takes Viibryd?? My husband is very anxious for me to start on a med plan. You see, I had been on Invega and Lamictal before as mood stabilizers and they worked rather well in fact but I had the side effect of persistant rash so was forced to give up a really good med combo. I have heard him ask over and over ask if I have been taking my meds and really want to be better so I can be a good Mom and partner again. I honestly thought that God willing and with my own will power I could beat my problems... I can't pretend anymore but I do know that if the way I am feeling were to be increased and I couldn't control it... I will probably need to be hospitalized and am ashamed at the thought of it. Did you have anxiousness, racing thoughts etc at the beginning?
Hi cots, no I've never taken Viibryd. Tad late in answering you, sorry about that. Have yourself a good weekend, keep us posted as to how its going for you,
Well, I started the Viibryd last night and I guess I was hoping for a miracle. But I did not get LB's or any GI problems. A little sleep disturbance but not bad, I only woke up a few times last night. I do feel a little hazy though but I have my Fiancee watching me to make sure everything is ok. I have one more question. When I decide to go off of the meds (if this worked) Will I have WD from the A/D, and does my body/brain become forever dependent on SSRI's?? Why else would some people be on them and constantly searching for another one?
HI Cots!. As to withdrawl, most often than not, its suggested that one taper when planning to stop. Thats generally accepted for most of the psychiatric drug families. Your doctor would/could confirm that. As to why people are on them for it sems ages or change from one to another, it varies from person to person. People will change ssri, some because the drug isn't working like it once was, either full potency or very little. Others, because of side effects, say, dry mouth, constantly thirsty, whatever it might be. Some people will stay on a drug for years because there anxiety or depression calls for it. There are different forms of depression and so different drugs, and more often than not, combinations there of. Its as it is.
This med has very bad side effects. I ignored them had the runs for 5 days and then it went down hill. I began to start cutting myself and kept thinking of killing myself. Stopped taking it and 2 days later it was like night and day. I'm going through a custody battle. Started on klonopin and then had trouble leaving the house. My doctor said it would even out the klonopin when I left the house. I have been on 3 different anti-depressants and all have made me act weird. Just proceed with caution.
Wow, I am terribly sorry you had such ill side effects with this med STK... I have been on it, let's see, last night was my 5th pill. I started off at 5mg so maybe that decreases the side effects. I have so far been sleeping well. Except the first night I woke up about 4 time and had to pee but nothing weird and fell right back to sleep. I did not get the runs either and am assuming from reading these and other comments on the drug that those side effects would no longer be a threat since I am moving on to pill six tonight at dinner. I was also advised to take with my largest meal to not only curb/cut the side effects but to cut the dose of the 10mg pill in the starter pack to 5mg because of how it breaks down by 50% with food.

So far I have been in better spirits almost immediately and my anxiety is cut in half and that's only on 5mg! So far this med seems to be doing some good for me. This is my first try at anti depressants and I am 25 going on 26 in a few months. So I am hoping and praying to get over this bump in the road soon and not "need" meds any longer. My only concern at this point and I discussed it with Pledge a bit is that when I am no longer in need of using Viibryd, the withdrawal... I guess I will deal with that fork when the plate is empty.
You said that the Klonopin caused you to not want to leave the house? Am I reading that correctly stk? I took Klonopin a while back and I guess the dose was too high because I blacked out and became very violent. I do not recommend Klonopin as someone who has been on anti-anxiety pills for over 10 years. Valium is the way to go, only if you do not smoke and don't drink grapefruit juice on a regular basis. BAD side effects from the juice and Valium loses it's effectiveness when tobacco enters the blood stream. The others are more or less a placebo... with no real effects. Let me know how you are doing?
