An injection is far less likely to cause an infection than arthroscopic surgery. As long as the injection site is sterile and a new needle and syringe is used shouldn't be a problem. I am sure that the doctor uses sterile procedures and new needles. I understand your concern having been through weeks of intravenous antibiotics for a serious infection, but honestly you have nothing to worry about with the Euflexxa. If the infection comes back it won't be because of the Euflexxa.

Hi Doug... I agree with Laurie. I am glad that the staph infection is cleared up after the 6 weeks of intravenous antibiotics. Those types of infections can be quite stubborn at times.
As far as the eflexxa... I would not worry either. These types of products (the hyaluronic acids) all come prepackaged with sterile needles included. I am sure your surgeon will use sterile technique measures while injecting this product into your knee joint. I have heard that people have great success with these products. Unfortunately they do not last forever... but they do buy you some time... good luck and be well... pup

I get 5 shots, one week apart of the Hyalgan injections. They are truly lifesavers. While the bone on bone situation still exists, these shots are buying me some more time. So far it's been 6 years and the difference they make is phenomenal. I don't think it is any risk at all - or the same risk it could be from any shot. Just make sure your doctor has glove on and that they wipe the injection site well with alcohol and you should be fine. I can appreciate your fear - I had a bone infection that I got during a surgery - the only place I could have developed thts infection was during the actual surgery. I had 6 days back in the hospital and was very sick, then had 6 weeks of IV antibiotics. No fun! Take care - ElizaJane
