I take tramadol now mostly for pain and i really like the ultram extended release. 300 mg in 24hrs was perfect. But my plan only covers generics. Anyone who uses this drug, or anyone who wants to try it (it can also help with depression) DO NOT get Par's generic. It is completely useless. Patriot Pharma... is the only company with a branded generic. I always go for branded generics because they are exactly the same as name brands. like greenstone is for xanax. greenstone is a subsidiary of (I cant remember) the company that invented and had the patents on xanax..same company, same exact dose. Just thought I'd let ya'll know. Par is usually very good, but not with this one.

Yes thank you,not schooled in all this med stuff.Just taking it.when I started ultram years ago one month I got the generic ,forgive me I don't know if this is even the same drug but... it did not work! I told the pharmacist and the dr. No one believed me,it was frustrating but since then I get ULTRAM not generic.again please forgive me if I am talking about something else but when I saw your post I had to read it could you educate me a little on why that happen?c
Sure. Ultram is the name brand and tramadol is the medicine, or generic name and in the U.S, the regular release are only available in 50mg. Ultram ER is the brand Ultram Extended Release hence the ER. Comes in 100, 200 and 300mg. Now with the generic ER available, Par was the first one I got. After some time, it worked just fine, but not as strong at knocking the pain down as the name brand er's I was used to. Par is a good company, and I will restate a few things about my post.(not here). Ultram came out in 95 or 96 and that is when I started taking it and it works quite well. It is not a narcotic but it works like one. It is a synthetic opiate. It's not a controlled substance (in most states) so the Dr.s are pretty cool about writing scripts. I always have some but have been on and off it since it came out. sometimes with generic I have to take a couple extra of the regular release tabs. So, If you take name brand Ultram, thats the best and stay with it if it works.

The er's are expensive. The best generic tramadol in my opinion is Amneal and Teva. amneal is round white and says
a n 627 and the Teva's are football white and say 93 58. actually the teva is probably a little mellower. Another good generic is the 377 made by Caraco they are very good and can be a bit intense. Stay away from the MP 717 those do nothing, they might as well be filled with sugar. E 311 by Sandoz are probably good. The ones I've named are the ones available around here and they are very good. Keep in mind, hospital post op doses are anywhere from 200 to 600mg. They can cause seizures because they lower the seizure threshold a bit. So 1 by 1 by 1 every 30 minutes to an hour until you feel good and the pain has stopped or subsided, then you stop as well. For me I take 1 or 2 and wait an hour or so and most of the time thats enough. If it's not working yet try another. For me 200 to 300mg is good when I'm hurtin pretty bad. The maximum recommended used to be 8 per day now they try to keep it at 4 to 6 a day. As far as your question on why the variations, the drug companys are allowed a little leeway when making generic drugs. could be a little stronger or weaker.they have to prove to the FDA it is equivalent in chemical make up. Also I have heard someone say (on here, and I havn't researched it) that generic drugs have a rating as to how far they swing within their limits. The grading system is A, B and C. I want to ask my pharmacist about it. A being the best I assume. So hope this answers your questions, if not let me know and I will try to help you further. I am not a Dr., but have dealt with chronic back pain for 15 years or so, and if it's out there, I have probably had it. as of today my inactivity has allowed me to take 1 less tramadol per day to step down and off them entirely, and don't take anything for it except Motrin IB or Advil. Hope this little book helps you or anyone understand tramadol a little better!
