I dont know much about chantix just that I have been prescribed it about a million times. I was just wondering how long were you a smoker? cause me and my husband plan on taking chantix together and want to know if it really helped and was it worth it cause I know its real expensive without insurance like $200.00 just for a quantity of 30. I dont want to throw money down the toilet but have been doing it forever as a smoker for 16yrs. anyway can't win or lose right.

You came to the right place for support... I have found responding in these forums to be very therapeutic in my quest lol. Your quit day is supposed to be by the 14th day of Chantix. So if you are only on day 8 you still have a few more days where you can smoke. Unless you set and passed your quit day already. I waited until the very last minute of the very last day lol. My mom was a closet smoker for years. She had quit for about 15 yrs and then picked it up again secretly. I knew because I am the only smoker. (She quit again thankfully.) Congratulations on coming back to the quitting table. My email address is posted in my profile I believe. Feel free to email me any time you have an urge. I came onto drugs.com and answered questions when I got an urge. To the responder thinking about going on Chantix with her husband... DO IT!! If you are one of the lucky ones like me to not experience all the side effects, Chantix is as close to a miracle as you will ever get.
Thanks for your words of support! I sound like your Mom :). Iguess Sunday will be day 14 for me so... that will be the date. How many months did you have to take Chantix? You have been smoke free since Jan? Wow! You have'nt cheated... Let me know...
Thanks again... I'll keep you posted.
Thank you everyone for writing back on this subject I would have to say I never gave it some serious thought in quitting but after reading both of your answers sounds like a good plan to finally escape from the usual hack in the morning smoke all day routine. The reason I asked is the cause the smoking has increased as I age. Im now 27 and it seems like ive been smoking forever. My son really hates it he is 9 yrs. old and has been after me for the past 3yrs. to quit I feel like im letting him down every time I light up. My clothes stink my car stinks the house stinks and im sick of cigarette butts and ashtrays all over the house it truely is a gross habit and wish I never!!! picked it up. Start date will be soon thank you and I will let you both know how it goes thank you so much for the support. Hope all goes well in ya'lls neck of the woods as well let me know if you both need someone to talk to im here for ya and check my computer at least once a day in the evening.

. I have to be honest since you asked point blank... Yes I have cheated. The 3 times I went out drinking with friends. I smoked a cigarette each time. Other than that, yes smoke free no cheating. Today was a real test of wills. My manager screamed at me in front of the entire office and then pulled me behind closed doors to talk about my disrespect. I wanted a cigarette so bad. I thought about it. Oh just one won’t hurt. But a small voice inside me said stay strong you’ll be proud of yourself by 3:00 when the dust has settled. And here it is 2:45 and the little voice was rightSomehow for me, cheating when I have an urge brought on by stress like today is different than cheating when I drank. Like if gave in to the urge when I was upset (near sobbing - probably partially because of PMS and the Chantix coming out of my system. Last day was Wednesday last week) then the cigarettes are still in control. I dunno maybe it’s a silly way to think.

Has anyone ever tried Bupropion XL 300 mg a day to stop smoking? I started 4/24/13. My doctor wanted to put me on Chantix but my friend went on it and now she suffers from panic anxiety attacks so I'm afraid of it.

I have to say do it!! I smoked over 15 yrs ago..quitt for over 13 yrs, then picked it back up a yr ago. I was a closet smoker. My quitt date is May 1st but already on day 11, I'm down to just 2-3 cigs a day. I do wish you and you husband the best. I just can't believe how easy it's been to not smoke. I have had some mild nausea about 20-30min after I take my pill... but I just get through it..and know it will pass. No other side effects for me so far. Just think how much money you will save not buying cigs..it's an investment in your health..Good luck and keep in touch..
