Has anyone ever had to take 6 blood pressure meds to get your heart rate and blood pressure under control? My blood pressure and heart rate was in stroke range and finally is down but it has taken 6 meds to do it and they are all almost at max doses. I am on Hydrochlorothiazide, Lisinopril, Verapermil, Norvasc, Bystolic,Hydralazine and now Prazosin which is being used for nightmares but is also a BP medicine. Has anyone ever heard of it taking so much to work? I would greatly appreciate any input you folks may have for me as you always have been helpful in the past. Thanks my friends out there, take care and thank you ahead of time for any help or comments you may have, marjorie zych

My brother in law was on 5 bp meds and he simply wanted everyone to know it didn't cause ED in him, which was TMI. If you are able to exercise, you might try walking about 15 minutes to start and then increase it by a few minutes every few days as this will help lower your blood pressure. Also, if you are over weight and can lose even a few pounds, that will help. My brother in law is a major major control freak who can't keep his nose in his own business and his weight is an issue. You can't tell him anything tho, he knows it all. When he lost 30 lbs, it did help, but he gained it back so he is back to square one. Don't over do the walking, slowly do it so you won't get sore, or shin splints and quit.

Hi marjorie, Honeslty, I have never heard of anyone taking quite so many BP medications, but I am sure your M.D. knows what he/she is doing. I finally settled on one BP medication. It helps me sleep, it helps with restless leg syndrome and lowers my blood pressure signifigantly. It is called clonidine. It can be dangerous with narcotic anelgesics, so if you are interested make sure your doctor monitors your BP, as often as possible or that you watch it at home with your own BP cuff. My BP has gone from 161/95 to 116/82. I am happy with the results. Keep me posted Fall Queen
Thanks fall queen I will check on it glad it worked for you. Unfortunately it has taken the 6 to get it down and they are not sure why it went so high to begin with. My blood pressure would average 210/146 or so and my heart rate would go as high as 142 so yes it is alot but considering I am in a safer zone with my numbers now I guess I have no choice, I will check on the Clonidine though because I also have restless leg syndrome so if I could have one drug do it all I would love that. Thanks again, marjorie zych
Clonidine is good to get your pressure down. I was on if for a while but beware, if you forget to take it at the same time everyday, it has what the doctor called a rebound effect and you pressure will shoot up... so take it with caution.

Hi Marjorie,
I take Ramipril 5mg, Amlodipine 5mg, Torsemide 20mg, Metaprolol 100mg, Clopidogrel, Aspirin all these meds besides some other twice a day in total around 19 odd pills a day besides 2 injections.
Take care, be well & above all safe, guess 'pills a day keeps the doctor away', have a nice night/day.
Thats alot too. I am on several others beside the blood pressure/heart meds a total of 27 a day some are 3 times a day a pill planner comes in handy I tell you or I would forget something, they now think there is a possibility of an autoimmune disorder possibily MS and I am scared. Take care Rajive Goel and watch all those meds like me too I guess, marjorie zych
Yes, Marjorie, I too sometimes forget some meds, but the 1 med don't forget is the sedative, ah.
Take care, be well.

Thank you pattishan61, I am overweight but I am trying to lose it and I have lost some I went from 280 down to 236 but right now until the heart rate has been down for awhile the doctor doesn't want me doing much my heart rate was up to 142 so I need to keep it down for awhile before trying very much exercise but your advice is right on weight does sometimes have a factor in it. Most of my issues with that are hereditary unfortunately so I am stuck a little with it but that doesn't stop me from eating as healthy as I can and trying to lose the weight. Your brother-in-law is in for some serious heart complications if he don't listen. Take care and thanks again, marjorie zych
Wow, you did good, girl with the weigh loss. Obviously I have to tell you to always follow the doctor and clear things with him/her. My room mate is older and mentally disabled and has atrial fibulation and takes Toprol and digitalis for his heart and verapamil and lisinopril. He is not over weight and mentally challenged, smokes heavily so he can't exercise, he gets out of breath. Maybe you could ask about the Toprol, they recently added this as his heartbeat was fast and thready. I am proud of you for the weight loss, that is major.
Thank you pattishan61 I am trying and continue to do so it is hard though it has taken me a long time to get that much off but i am not giving up on the weight issue, all the women in my family are big so that is against me but I never back down from a challenge. Thanks again my friend I could use all the support I can get with this marjorie zych
Please pay attention to this reply. I was up to five bp mess at once and still had high bp. I am maybe 15 lbs overweight, don't snore, but was constantly fatigued in part or wholly due to the mess I thought. This went on for a decade!!! I finally went to an enlightened cardiologist who said I needed to be tested for sleep apnea. Sure enuff- it was severe. Now using a cpap device and bp is way down, only one bp med and that may go away in the future. Go get tested- read the information on sleep apnea and how it affects so much of your life!!! It affects men and women, from 20s to 80s and the results once treated are dramatic. Best of all- its completely safe - no drugs, just air!! Good luck- lose weight, exercise with moderation as you lose the weight and get tested for sleep apnea. Six drugs to try and control bp is a clear sign the problem is something other than what the drugs treat.
