I just started Forteo because all of the other bone pill & spays just didn't work for me. This is my last Chance! If anyone out there has any experience with Forteo, would love to hear from you. nI began taking it 12/9/10, and so far no side effects to speak of. Thanks for your input

I am on my second pen and yes i have side affects. the most prominent of which is insomnia and without sleeping pills i dont sleep. and the scarey part is that when i phoned the forteo company i was told that the side affects can come and go while on the treatment. but regardless it is better than the alternative.

Thanks suzanne66, I think I have read every article ,warning, how to use etc.. before coming to a final decision to use Forteo. ( The lesser of 2 evils) My doctor said it was basically my last chance for my bones. I have so many allergies; I was most concerned with mannitol, but did not react to it thank goodness! The info sent by Forteo, ( & I agreed to be in a study about cancer possibilities with the FDA) seemed like every other paragraph was WARNING may cause osteoscarcoma! They tell you this every time they call you too! (Maybe be protecting themselves from future recourse?) Thanks again
MaRY i'M GLAD TO KNOW THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE TO WONDER ABOUT THE HYPE, that every thing you get warns you about the danger but I've tried everything eles including reclast injections and boniva. For me nothing worked. iF IT WORKS ITS WORTH THE RISK FOR ME. pLEASE KEEP IN TOUCH.

My doc advised me to start this drug. (Forteo) I'm dubious. Dont want to be experimented on. 12 years on other drugs turned out not to be effective (Miacalcin nasal spray). Now they are recommending stopping these drugs after 5 years to give your body a "break". As I understand it, Forteo is the first drug to "build new bone" whereas all the other meds "slow the shedding of OLD bone". Every drug you take has a reaction in your body. At 73, I think if I had taken supplements of calcium, vitamin D, low dose estrogen, exercised properly... I might not be in this situation. I would love to hear how you are doing with Forteo as time goes by, how your doc is monitoring you etc., so please keep posting and let us know. Thanks - good luck and God bless.

I have fibromyalgia which they seem to think is related to not getting REM sleep & have me on xanax plus benadryl,so I haven't experienced the no sleep problem from Forteo. The pills knock me out for 3 to 4 hours & then I'm used to not sleeping! ha! I wish you luck too; I'm on my 2nd injector also. Keep me posted. I hope the osteoscarcoma isn't one that comes & stays! Yikes!
and now the nausea begins. i am now taking a motility drug for the nausea and it helps slightly. i have good days and i have bad. but i am counting down the pens to the end so to speak. 3 down 23 to go. :(
marjier! Oh my gosh! I have had nausea & bloating ,horrible gas. Thought I was sick, but maybe it's the Forteo. I was at my doctors, & he never mentioned it could be the Forteo, but did give me a script for Compazine. It helps the nausea some, but not the nasty gas. Do you have that problem too? This has been going on 2 to 3 weeks! I am finishing my 3rd pen. Got to make it. Have to have surgery on both hands because of this horrible disease & osteoarthritis.
hi ladies my name is laura i am 51 yrs old an have just also began my 2nd pen of forteo no side effects to speak of really except some nausea an vomiting but it also comes and goes in waves they told me after 4-6wks on forteo this should go away i hope so but again it's worth that for new bone my spine & hips are severly eaten by oesteoporsis cancer runs wide spread in my family but this time was told i have no other choice either do treatments an run risk or crumble i'm to young to crumble have had 5 fractures in last 3 yrs ribs just from sneezing spine fracture just from reaching in to get a mug for coffee, my RA doc just keeps telling me don't fall scary stuff but I am hopeful Forteo will help us all grow new bone good luck
Started forteo April this year. With out the Lilly company, I would not be able to take this mediciene. My insurance first said no, then told me I'd go into the drug gap in two months. I appealed to Lilly and they have been fantastic. I don't know what's going to happen when I have to change ins. I'll be 65 years in March.
I have been taking it for 9 months, the only side effect I have noticed has been muscle pain in my legs and back. Nothing eles worked for me and I am hoping this will work.
Hello girls, is the reason you're on Forteo for Osteoporosis or something else?
Yes, the reason I 'm on Forteo is osteoporosis. I am now on my 14th getting ready to start my 15 pen injecter. Have not had any side effects thus far. Think my previous experience was just a tummy flu or something. It disappeared.
Mary - thanks for responding. My doctor told me I would only be taking it for 6 months (a daily injection). This drug is still in stage 3 of trials isn't it? How does your doc monitor your progress? Were you given a time limit on usage, or for that matter, where one goes from there? Thanks and I hope others will let us know more too.
I will be taking it for 26 months which is the limit Eli Lilley suggests for osteoporosis. I had a DEXA scan after the first 12 months & for the firt time in 25 years have shown new bone growth! I was amazed. I quit reading the scarey literature, & just throw it away every month. I'm on the FDA watch list so if anything goes awry they will notify me. I wish you luck, but I don't know about just 6 months. The recommendation is 26 months of your lifetime. Best of luck to you... Mary
