my friend has been on pain pills for two years, and i was just wandering what the long term effects were. how do you know when the drug is starting too take a bad toll on your body?

If he is using them as prescribed and not abusing them, then he can virtually take them forever although hydrocodone (lortab,vicodin and hydro's) is a fairly weak opiate and it doesn't take long before your tolerance grows and you need more and more to cover the pain. This is usually when addiction starts to develop.
Any doctor who keeps a patient on a quick acting opiate for 2 years sure as hell doesn't know how to treat a obvious chronic pain patient... Dave
