My son is 8 and had 2 seizures last week. His neurologist prescibed Keppra but I'm afraid to give it to him... He had a seizure back in 2008 and was in the hospital. He was diagnosed with Rolandic E. Since his seizures are so far and between, i don't think he needs to medication.
Has anyone experienced this???
Please let me know.
Should I give my child Keppra?

Hi, i can't talk from experience, but i am glad you are considering this medication. I think it is important for you to research all the side effects that are possible from this medication. If you enter it in the box at the top of the site it will tell you nearly everything you need to know. Keppra is quite a potent medication, and it is important for anyone that is caring for your son to know if he is taking it. A suggestion is to order him a medical talisman bracelet or necklace, stating the medication he is on. Once you start keppra it can be a bit of a lengthy process to stop it if/when you decide to. On the other hand though, at least you will have peace of mind knowing that you son is protected from further seizures. He may have had seizures very occasionally so far, but there is nothing to say, that with age they won't increase. Hopefully they won't but you never know. I think there are many reasons for and against using kepra, so try to do as much research as possible. Sorry i can't be of more help.

My 4 yr old son has had two seizures in the past couple of months and his pediatric neurologist prescribed him Keppra. He's been on it for a month now and "knock on wood" has had no side effects. He did become quite hyper for the first week as his body adjusted to it, but that has waned and he's back to normal. We haven't received the results of his EEG and MRI yet to find out why he had the seizures, but after researching, Keppra is a very good medication for partial seizures with the fewest side effects for most. If you're concerned about not giving it to him, talk to his doctor about it. He may help you in making your decision. For me, its knowing my son may not have another seizure, or at least one that's not 2-3 minutes long, is the reason for giving it to him. :) Good luck!
