Hello Phyllis50. I was on both your medications.Once on seroquel and then trazodone (desyrel). I was on seroquel for several years. My dose was 300mg and I found it a wonder drug in the sense of helping me to sleep. Long tale short, I dropped it because even with insurance, I found it to expensive. From there I went onto remeron, which I currently take in a combo. Desyrel I was on before I went onto seroquel. I did not get that sedated, drowsy feeling. I mean it was there, but nothing compared to the seroquel. My handicap if you will is that I am an insomniac, so I always need at least one medication that I need to take in the evening, all be that the primary goal is to use the drug as an anti-depressant, from the stand point of my drs. sedative anti-depressants such as elavil, and desyrel, then, you know the benzodiazepines, halcion, restoril, dalmane and so on. Well, I went on a bit here, and wish you success. If it doesn't work out the way that you'd like, I am certain some other medication will work for you. Best of wishes.

Trazodone may work relatively soon for sleep though it may take longer to work for the antidepressive properties. Peak plasma levels occur approximately one hour after dosing when Trazodone hydrochloride is taken on an empty stomach or two hours after dosing when taken with food. So as far as taking for sleep, I would try to take it on an empty stomach.
Good luck on the new med,

I take Trazodone 100mg at bedtime. I went through a major depression, might be bipolar but that's another story. Since 2007 I have been taking it. I get sleepy about 20 minutes after taking it. I can fall asleep about 30 minutes after taking it too. It works great for me. I can get up in the night to go to the bathroom or up with kids and back to sleep till morning no problem. Hope this helps you.
