Hello! I just started taking Ocella ad I am 19 years old. I started my first pack with the first yellow pill on the first day of my period. I went through the 21 yellow pills, but skipped the last 7 white pills and continued on to the second pack. I got to the 6th pill and got my period that day. I am wondering what i do now. right now, i just want my body to get used to these pills and get everything timed correctly and have more predictable periods. Do i keep taking the pills normally and finish the pack, or do i skip immediately to the white pills and disregard the other 15 yellows? Heres a diagram of how i took my pills if it helps clarify.x= TAKEN, o= SKIPPED, n= NOT TAKEN YET

Where do i go from here? And for future reference, do i take all 28 pills before i move on to another pack (i am not trying to manipulate or skip my period right now- i cant even get the normal stuff down!)

Keep taking them exactly as they are in the pack, you might want to take the reminder/inactives just to get in a rhythm of taking it everyday. Some girls skip a period on new birthcontrol pills, some have the break thru bleeding like you have had, it is your body still acclimating to the pill, keep taking it and take it as close to exactly 24 hours apart as you can. It takes about 3 packs of pills to totally regulate the cycle and for mild side effects to disappear. Hope this helps, just keep taking them though. Patti

i know most contraceptive pills have seven lactose pills that you do not have to take but are there purely to keep you in sync with your cycle and so you remember to take a pill everyday. I know when i took the pill i didnt take the lactose ones, they are just pure sugar but if you look at your packet its not hard to tell when to start again. im not sure about skipping fifteen pills, i think you should just stick to the instructions and not skip any until you rigid in your routine.

I used to work for many years in a family planning clinic. Patti is right. You just keep taking the pills they way they are in the pack and try to take them at roughly the same time every day-whatever is a good time for you to remember your pill. It takes about 3 or so packs of Pills before you regulate out into a cycle based on the Pills. Right now your body is kicking out its own hormones plus you are getting the Pill hormones. Eventually the Pill will suppress your own hormones and you will cycle when you are supposed to. It is not unusual in the beginning to get "breakthrough" bleeding-this is any bleeding occurring outside the week of the inert pills. In most packs, the last week of Pills are inert or sugar pills designed to get you used to taking a pill every day. You dont really need to take them but I think it is a good idea so you always take a Pill each day and know exactly when you are to start a new pack. When we get busy, things like this are easy to forget.

One thing to remember about the Pill. Antibiotics (and some other drugs-but mainly antibiotics) can reduce the effectiveness of the Pill. You need to be sure to use a back up method like a condom during the whole time on the antibiotics and for about 14 days afterward. Some women even experience breakthrough bleeding while on antibiotics. If you miss a Pill, take it as soon as you remember even if it is time for the next one-you can take them together. You should then use a back up method during the whole time you are on the antibiotics and for 14 days afterward.
So never mind when your period comes in regards to taking the Pills. Keep on taking them exactly each day as you should and yes, it is best to take all 28-just to establish a habit and keep track of days for you. If after 3-4 packs you do not regulate and begin to bleed where you are supposed too, THEN contact your Dr or NP. They may need to change pills but cross that bridge when it comes.
