How safe is low dose alprazolam?

- panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, alprazolam
I have been on 1.25 mil of alprazolam divided into 4 times a day for over 3 years, for GAD's I am turning 62 this year and worried about my brain as I am getting more forgetful and foggy. I have cut down to just 1 mil for about 3 weeks... so far so good. I get non- epileptic seizures which Dr. feels is caused by panic attacks or the anxiety.
I am able to use antidepressants due to the many side effects they cause me, seizures being one of them. I just wondered at what age will they get better? Is there a better treatment? I is very scary for me as you read a lot about problems with benzo's and older people.

Spelling may have been okay but I need a grammar check!
I meant to say I am unable to take antidepressants due to some major reactions, seizures being one of them.

Hello lalaB. If you feel uncomfortable on the Alprazolam, I suggest a SSRI such as Paroxetine/Paxil for the GAD. It is an SSRI and so not in the same classification as a benzodiazepine. Regards pledge
