Roxicodone - Im on roxi 30mg ir and keep seeing people talking about them changing to the op style?

I can clear this one up. They have a short acting oxycodone that is abuse resistant already on the market. It is called Oxecta. It is made with the same technology that the new OP OxyContins are made with. First let me clear a few things up about the new version of OxyContin. It is not abuse proof, it is abuse resistant. It is very difficult to crush but crushing it does NOT render it ineffective. If you hit an OP with a hammer, it doesnt crush into powder like the old OC formula did. At best, it flattens out and maybe breaks into large particles. The old OCs, if you crushed them, they became powder which gave you a large amount of immediate release oxycodone and was easy to snort. The new ones, like I said, will break into pieces and even these pieces retain some of their time release properties so breaking them up doesnt make them immediate release anymore.

The same with the Oxecta, if you hit it with a hammer, it wont crush, just flattens or at best breaks into large pieces but since it is not time release this is not a factor. But the large pieces are difficult to snort.and both OP OxyContin and Oxecta have a polymer added that will gel up when they are exposed to moisture so, if they are snorted, they gel up in the nose and dont absorb well by mucus membranes. If you add these new pills (both Oxecta and OP OxyContin) to water they turn into a gloppy gel which you cant draw up in a syringe to inject and you cant easily extract the oxycodone from this gel so they are almost impossible to abuse by injecting like you could with the powder. As far as I know, they are not removing the Roxicodone and generics from the market like they did with the old OC Oxycontin. The Oxecta just gives the Drs another choice to give to patients who are higher risk to abuse their pills be altering them and using them in ways not intended. You have to swallow these pills whole. One other thing with the OP OxyContins that really made them hard to get used to for people who took the OC version is the way they release. The old OC version was both immediate and slow release-they used to release about half of the medication right away as a bolus, then slowly released the rest over the 12 hour time. The new OP version are totally time release-no immediate bolus of medicine so they take much longer to work and they just dont give the same release. This is why some people felt like they were having withdrawal symptoms-they dont get that immediate bolus to knock out pain. It trickles more slowly into the system so it seems to take much longer to work. I hope this clears things up and answers your question. Dzoo
