If he thinks it will help why not give it a try and see what happenes... if your pms is that unbearable and horrible to the point that your life is severely afeected I think that you should go for it and see if it helps. If your doc. thinks it can it probably will and being 44 and always haveing this problem finally finding something to help can be scary but exciteing... just think... What if? If it was that bad for me (being a woman and concidering mine hard" I would at least give it a try in this age of revolution and the best prt.. if it doesnt work discontinue use and you will already know what you will be up against.
