The belong to the same class of drugs so should give the same sort of response.
ProAir is albuterol, a bronchodilator that relaxes muscles in the airways and increases air flow to the lungs.
Albuterol inhalation is used to treat or prevent bronchospasm in people with reversible obstructive airway disease. It is also used to prevent exercise-induced bronchospasm.
Xopenex (levalbuterol) is also bronchodilator. It works by relaxing muscles in the airways to improve breathing.
Levalbuterol inhalation is used to treat reversible obstructive airway conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema.
Get your son to try ProAir and see - if he doesn't like it or you feel it doesn't help then you could ask the doctor for Xopenex again.
And there is no problem with using ProAir with Pulmicort.
