Can I wash the cream off of my hands after about 2 hours so I can do chores, etc. How long is cream actively working on my skin?

I don't think you purposely need to wash your hands after 2 hours, before doing chores. You can apply a moisturizer or sun screen 2 hours after fluorouracil topical has been applied.
I suppose if it does wash off it doesn't matter.
