... a yeast infection. Now I read that it may cause birth defects. Can someone please help me? Does anyone know someone who also used this cream and their baby was fine?

You are just using this on outer skin areas that are small, correct? As long as you are not using this intravaginally or over large areas, you should not absorb enough systemically to cause any problems. Be sure not to cover with any bandages or anything occlusive to keep you from absoring too much. If you were to apply this to a very large area you might absorb enough to be problematic but using topically to small areas should be ok. I used some sort of antifungal cream when I was pregnant with both my children. I dont remember what kind though. I was only allowed to use it on these patches on the insides of my thighs that were Candida (or yeast). I was not allowed to put any medicine inside my vagina. My kids were unaffected by the cream used topically.

Did you use on or in your vagina?
If you used it topically on the outside of the vagina it should be okay. You probably didnt absorb enough systemically. Did he tell you to use it by inserting the cream inside your vagina or topically on the outer part of the vagina.
I am using it on the outside of the vagina but that includes the membrane part as well as the outer part... thank you for your responses...
I think everything will be ok. You are using it on a very small area and not much will be absorbed systemically. When your baby is born, be on the lookout for thrush. If you notice a white cheesy coating on your baby's tongue have the pediatrician treat him for thrush. Since you have been prone to yeast infections while pregnant it is likely that the baby could pick that up in the vagina while being delivered and wind up with thrush. In addition to the white coating on their tongue, they may have a very red angry diaper rash that is spotty around the edges. Both my children had thrush once they were born as I am very prone to yeast infections and had them while pregnant. They gave mine Nystatin liquid to trickle on their tongue and then let them swallow-easier said than done with an infant I tell you! lol Dont worry! Everything will be fine! :)
Great comment DzooBaby - very helpful!
Thank you dzoobaby for your advice... I am hoping everything will be fine like you said. Also, thanks for the advice about the thrush, I will be on the lookout for that.
